Real neat blog award

I want to start off with a big thank you to Modesty Ablaze and Cammies on the Floor for nominating me for the award. It’s a huge honour to be recognised and each one left me grinning for days.

However, I am always a little uncomfortable about the chain letter feel to these awards so I won’t be passing it forward. I do think it’s a lovely way for people to find out a little more about me than my regular posts allow so here are the answers to their questions.

Modesty Ablaze’s questions

What made you start blogging? (Yes, I know it is a recurring question, but it is interesting to know isn’t it!)

Mainly it’s because of my exhibitionist streak, I had come across the Scavenger Hunt and I really wanted to join in. I initially thought about a tumblr account as I’m not a natural writer but I thought this way I could also express views and try to organise my thoughts through writing about them.

Has that reason changed throughout time?

My reasons haven’t really changed, they evolve as the blog evolves. I struggled initially getting enough words together to form a post, which is bizarre as when I start talking getting me to stop is an issue. Now I have more confidence and the words often flow so much I have to cut them down so I don’t bore you all with TLDR posts.

But also things I am always curious about whenever I’m scrolling through a new blog or posting. How did you come about your blog name?

The persona I use is the name Sir gave me, I always keep myself busy and can’t sit still for five minutes, so busy as a bee. I also used to play on that and sing a little bee ditty and flit around the kitchen as I pollinated my plants. So the name stuck and then he added the sub because that’s what I am. Daft, simple but very meaningful for me.

Do you share your blog with your partner / special friend before you make each post?

He is my technical support and photographer so he does all the design and behind the scenes stuff, editing and getting the images ready. With regard to the written part of the posts, mostly I do show him, usually it’s just a second spell or grammar check because I’m no good at spotting my mistakes. I also like him to read anything that is about him too, it’s only fair and it gives him a chance to put his point of view across or if I’ve said something that doesn’t come across the way I’ve intended it to. In my eyes the blog is about us and not just me so I’m hoping that in future when things aren’t quite so busy he may even write a thing or two himself.

Your lifestyle obviously influences your blog, but has your blog, or reading other blogs you have discovered via your own, influenced your lifestyle?

I’ve definitely found I’ve learnt a lot more about myself since I started blogging, things are definitely clearer in my head until I overthink things and they all get jumbled up again. I’m not sure other blogs have necessarily influenced me, Molly has definitely been a wonderful mentor and it’s always fascinating to see other peoples interests and points of view. I’m also a bit of a magpie when I see something new, my eyes start to sparkle and I’m begging Sir to try it out.

How on earth do you manage your time so efficiently to blog?

Well considering how long it’s taken me to actually respond to this award I think it’s fairly obvious I don’t manage it efficiently. I spend a lot of my evenings reading and commenting on other people’s blogs rather than writing for my own which means most of my writing is done whilst I’m supposed to be working! Any photography we do is often last minute but one day I hope we can build up a bit of a library and be a little bit ahead of ourselves.

Blogging: why do it and has the reason changed, how did you decide on the persona?

This one is cheating, that’s three question in one! But seeing as I’ve just written about it in Modesty’s questions I won’t cover it again here anyway.

What is your favorite color and five color associations you have to it? (eg red: love, blood; blue: sad, ocean, etc.)

I just love purple but I have no idea why. It’s definitely a calming colour but also has a luxurious feel to it too. I love deep purple flowers, I love the purples of a beautiful sunset and the purple of marks and bruises don’t need any explanation!

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

Hmm, tough one. I think I would be a similar age to what I am now, my mind is in a good place, I have confidence I didn’t have when I was younger and I know what I want. Having said that, if I could have the body I had in my twenties and the mind I have now I’d be very happy.

If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?

The one place I keep getting drawn back to is Arizona. I spent a long summer there, it was warm, it was beautiful but I actually felt so at home too. Since then I’ve been back a few times and it has always felt right. A few years ago I almost moved out there permanently but it wasn’t to be. Luckily I stayed here in the UK and met Sir, how different things could have been.

Name five things that you are grateful for.

Top of my list would have to be Sir, several times over and for numerous reasons. Similarly I really value our time together, not just being in the same place but those moments we set aside that are for us without any interruptions or distractions, they’re so rare at the moment but mean so much to me when they happen. I’m grateful for my kinky kitty, when I get home after work and she’s there doing something crazy to put a smile on my face. Now moving into deeper territory, I am grateful I have my job, I may hate it but at least it allows me to have a roof over my head and I know I am able to feed myself, too many people aren’t that lucky. Finally, I’m definitely grateful for my health, it’s something we can be very complacent about but seeing those close to me lose theirs makes you realise how different things could be.

At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?

This one I threw over to Sir, to see what his thoughts were and his answer made me smile the biggest smile ever. He said “you show passion everyday, in all the small things you do, you’re always there for me”. I’d have agree I’m passionate and feel so alive when I’m with him.

What post that you wrote is your favorite? Why?

Oh good question but I can’t just pick one. The one I’m quite proud of is The belt it most certainly isn’t the best piece of fiction around but it’s the first and only piece of fiction I have written outside of my school days and it took a huge amount of courage to post it. As for my favourite photography post I think that would have to be Trick or Treat it was Sirs first time using face paints so I was really impressed with the result, not that I ever doubted his creative skills, then to have Pandora Blake feature it on her blog made me burst with pride. I have to admit I did have a massive fan girl moment over that one!
