Oh! You pretty things

A close up of the tips of three needles showing what pretty things they are.

It’s very rare that I’m genuinely moved by the passing of a celebrity, saddened maybe by the loss of talent but not emotional. However, when I awoke on Monday and saw the news of David Bowie’s death break I was stopped in my tracks and by the time I reached work, tears were pricking my eyes.

I grew up surrounded by his music. As with all children I mostly hated my Dad’s taste in music but with Bowie I couldn’t disagree, his diversity and unique voice always captivated me. Not only that, he introduced The Snowman and I loved that film as a child! I was lucky enough to have met him too although, sadly, I never got to see him perform.

I’ve been trying to find a way to pay my tributes all week, so many of his songs hold a deep meaning for me, I keep finding myself humming and singing them in my head this week! Then it came to me, every time Sir gets the beautiful needles out and he’s busy prepping and laying everything out and I can’t wait to find out what his plans for the scene will be I always find Oh! You pretty things is going round in my head and I find myself smiling. Now I think it will always play a role in how I get my head into the right space.

So David, thank you for the music and thank you for the smiles.
