Sometimes you need to bring out the big gun in order to get anything done.
In my case, as my GP refused to prescribe me HRT, or even entertain the idea. Not just one person but all four I spoke to said no as I’m under 50. I think we all know perimenopause occurs before that age and to just turn people away is ridiculous!
So, off I went to a private clinic to speak to someone there. I recognise I have a lot of privilege in order to do that but it also showed how absolutely desperate I was for someone to listen to me.
Thinking this would be the big gun I needed for my GP to take action, I went back with a positive outlook. How misguided I was. They said no, again because I’m under 50, but not only that, they’re also saying no to treating me for another health condition I have. I was so taken aback I didn’t even know how to respond!
Just as I was getting over the shock and starting to write a letter of complaint, the GP called me back to apologise. And I can see the HRT nurse so long as I have more blood tests to check my hormone levels, even though I’d had them merely months before anyway! But they did say I couldn’t have what the private clinic recommended, without giving me a good reason why. So off I went to see the nurse and I managed to get exactly what the private clinic recommended.
I cannot believe this whole process has taken a couple of years in total. And a whole two months since my private clinic appointment! For someone who already suffers from chronic fatigue, the process left me exhausted and broken. But I got there, now to wait and hope to find out if it will make a difference for me.
Whilst I wait, I hope you enjoy the other type of big gun I stumbled across on a weekend escape earlier this year.
