A while ago I posted my first attempt at sketching since I left school, I was really nervous about posting it because I’m a little, how shall I put it, artistically challenged. Creativity was never really my strong point.

Practice practice practice! I’m with Violet on this. I tell my students to buy a copy of Betty Edwards Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. It’s cheap and very comprehensive. Otherwise if drawing from photos turn photo upside down fools the brain. We all tend to draw what we think we know but the trick is to draw what’s there. Don’t need to be able to draw straight line there’s not a lot of them in nature… sorry I’ll get off my podium now.

I love seeing drawings here not just photos! Drawing is like any other skill, it can be learned. Practice, train your eye, be patient with yourself. Try to let go of the trope of the god given talent of the artist. Yes, some are more inclined but anyone can draw, as is evidenced here with your excellent sketch! Keep drawing!
